Fanfic asks for the new year -- 2, 3, 7, 9, 11

2. Will you participate in any fandom exchanges or fic challenges, etc? I will definitely be running another regular round of @wipbigbang this year (and I'm probably going to do art again for the unclaimed fics and actually stay on top of it this time...whether I try finishing any of my WIPs is another matter) and I am currently running the International Fanworks Day Mini-Bang at the aforementioned big bang. I may do a fic for that as well, since it's really laid back.

I will also be finishing up the five prompts I got in December for @mollyappreciationweek at some point in the early half of the year (and I'll be running a February week-long round for Valentine's Day/Galentine's Day/Singles Awareness Day as well as another prompt-a-thon in December), and if you do Christmas In July again I'll take prompts. I may do the Spook Me Ficathon instead of Fictober...not sure. But I do plan on doing Spook Me this year after missing the sign-ups the last few years. And if I get enough participants, I'll do another round of @sherlollysecretsanta and make mod gfts as well (which reminds me...got to email participants in this round about the fic covers).

3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one? I do! One of the WIPs I'm bouncing around finishing for WIPBB is the Knives Out Cablanca fic you are letting me finish, and I've never written Knives Out before. As for all mine fics? It's not entirely new, but I tossed out a Marvel's What If...? fix-it idea for Peggy/1602!Steve which I might write, which will be my first time writing specifically for that show.

7. Will you change anything about the way you interact with other writers? I'm going to try and read more fic written by people other than @dreaminonao3 (I have a backlog of @sobeautifullyobsessed's fic that I'm going to read when I have a good chunk of time to donate to reading some of her long WIPs, and I have a ton of bookmarked fics across a bunch of different fandoms on my Firefox account), and make damn sure I comment and comment often. I'm also going to try and reblog more fic recs over on @mousedetective, where I have a bigger audience.

9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January? Since I finally seem to be over my food poisoning, this week I hope to do the mod gifts for Sherlolly Secret Santa and write at least one or two things for @greenskyoverme, including the newest chapter of "What Stork Brings." As for January? I want to get as much art done for the 2023 round of WIPBB that I owe as I can. I also want to write something new for my birthday on the 23rd, since I'm not expecting a whole lot this year.

11. Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes this year? Not really? There isn't much I haven't tried at least once in the 25 1/2 years I've been writing fic.

Now, new ships, on the other hand? That I'm game for...

Fic that made me cry: I don't know that I've read a fic this year that made me cry. I know I wrote some emotional scenes throughout the year in a few fics, but honestly, Where You Were (Time Circuits Series #3) made me cry when I posted the last chapter because I had been working toward finishing this massive series for almost ten years. And I did it. It was an incredible feeling of accomplishment and loss, and I didn't know what I would do with myself at first. Luckily, my Discord community has kept me busy. :)

Fic that made me smile: I'm jumping out of the BttF fandom for this one! The Decoy Bride by musicprincess1990 was a BBC Sherlock AU that took place in 2011's The Decoy Bride, one of my go-to rom-coms that doesn't get nearly enough appreciation. And making it Sherlolly just made it that much better!

Gifts: I have not received any, but I did write Crime Traveller for @randomlithuanian, and I am feverishly working on my first Secret Santa project to be revealed on December 25th!

Phantom of the Opera is THEEEEE all-time favorite for me. I wrote for that fandom way back in the day (on ff.net!), and I've tracked down pretty much every adaptation there is. My copy of the Susan Kay book is so well-loved that it's stained and in pieces, and my favorite film version is the 1990 miniseries with Charles Dance and Teri Polo.

Other faves are The X-Files and Sherlock (I also wrote for Sherlolly before acotar!) for TV, and music-wise tbh I mostly listen to dance pop (Carly Rae Jepsen, Dua Lipa, I'm one of the half dozen extant Ava Max stans, etc) and uhhhhhh...in case my ongoing Taylor Swift lyrics as fic titles theme didn't give it away, I'm a Swiftie. Reputation is probably my favorite Taylor album - it scratches the same itch in my brain as a good Disney villain song lmao

And honestly, I have a way easier time naming favorite authors than favorite books. Rosie Danan, Rachel Lynn Solomon, Erin Sterling/Rachel Hawkins, Adriana Anders, and Ilona Andrews are more recent faves, plus I have an eternal soft spot for Nora Roberts, as dated as her work can be.

Then I really hope you guys will sign up for the Molly Hooper Appreciation Week stuff and Sherlolly Secret Santa, because I get little to no engagement for it and I'm about to stop doing them because I'm just...really disappointed. I love Sherlolly. When I write I write a lot of Sherlolly, but trying to get fandom engagement from people who still ship the ship is hard.

I know the lack of new content means it's not as busy a community as it used to be but I think it is a testament to how special Sherlolly is that so many people are still dedicated to honouring their relationship 6 years down the line. It's really awesome. I love them so much. Molly is so brilliant and nobody knows it more than Sherlock Holmes. They're both odd birds who don't quite fit in and they adore each other so much, partly for that reason, I think. It's spectacular.

it's already been too long, i'm so sorry. it's just been a busy, crazy year in my household (and working full-time under all-new management is not helping much, either).

but enough about my woes. today i want to ask you some questions.

Hi SSS! Trust me, I understand all about crazy, busy years and especially last part of the year business changes! Okay, questions. 1. I do not have a favorite Christmas Album/soundtrack, I have favorite Christmas songs. Ones that I will always turn up in the car and sing along too. And mostly they are rare ones that are hardly played on the radio stations. 2. Fandom! The characters have to be engaging. I can't explain it. I'd say I have types, but the types for the characters that I legit get involved with vary between the following: morbid sunshine, intelligent aloof, bamf female who knows what she wants, broody guys (goes through quick list of everything in my mind just to make sure I have them all) Yep. Variations occur but usually, they fit into one of these categories. 3. LOL! I would not do that to you nor the internet. My friends in real life have to put up with my word vomit enough. I'm one of those people who can take a topic and spend an hour talking someone's ear off about it. This...this is me to my friends LOL!
